West End Photography Society is a registered non-profit society in BC and our darkroom is located within the West End Community Centre in Vancouver. The Community Centre provides the space for the darkroom while the society provides and maintains the equipment in the darkroom and runs the meetings.
We have a fully equipped black and white darkroom available to members on an hourly basis, handling negatives up to 4″x5″ and prints up to 16″x20″. In addition we hold monthly meetings for members to share their work and explore darkroom and photography techniques.
How to become a member
It is critical that all members using this shared darkroom have the skills and knowledge to keep the space safe and functioning well, therefore all members must have recent darkroom training and experience.
Note: If you do not have recent experience/training you will need to take an introductory darkroom course. Some of the facilities that offer refresher or introductory courses that we encourage are: Langara College, Emily Carr, or West End Community Centre.
- Attend an orientation session in order to become familiar with the West End Photographic Society rules, expectations, and the darkroom itself.
- Purchase an annual membership. The membership helps cover administration costs such as website and domain and society fees, as well as darkroom equipment, repairs, and improvements. ($36 annual)
- Purchase a darkroom time card to gain access to the darkroom. ($30 for a 15 hour card)
