This course is an outgrowth of the very popular series of classes that have run since 2023?s Winter term at the West End Community Centre. The maximum enrollment had to be expanded from the original 10 to 15 and, most recently, to 20 participants due to demand. As this course is ongoing and not repetitive in nature many students have become regulars and continue from term to term. The course really is a mixture of lectures on the history of 20th century popular music andculture using audio video by instructor Dan Casavant along with the dynamic of participants interacting with him and others in the room with questions and observations. The people involved are mostly of ?a certain age? as is the instructor Dan Casavant.Dan Casavant is a semi-retired West End resident who had a lifelong career as a professional performing and recording musician starting in Winnipeg in 1966 and on to Vancouver from 1983 to the recent past. Some West End residents may remember him as a member of the BobCats band playing guitar, keyboard and singing and having an ongoing Sunday gig at the old Dover Arms pub from 2000 to 2017. He has had a rich career in music well beyond the BobCats and draws heavily on his experiences and passion for music in presenting this course of which he continues to create all of it?s content. What makes this course particularily special is the community and connection that it fosters between people of ?a certain age?. This Summer session will no doubt be no exception to what has grown since it?s inception. It is recommended that you enroll early?demand is high!. Drop-in: $13 (3 spots available per week).
