Halloween Carnival and Ghostly Graveyard (2-7 yrs) – Fall 2016

Join us for this fun, hair-raising event and get into the spooky spirit! Enjoy creepy crafts, terrifying treats, eerie entertainment and much more! Don’t forget to wear your costume & visit our ghostly graveyard. Parent participation is required. Pre-registration is recommended.

Flea Market – Fall 2016

Funds raised from all flea markets go to the WECC Youth Programs and the King George Secondary School Grad Committee. The flea market is held in the West End Community Centre’s auditorium. Tables go on sale Saturday, September 10th. Registration in person at WECC only.

WECCA Fall 2016 Program Guide
The WECCA Fall 2016 Recreation Guide is Here!
All of the Fall months’ programs for the West End Community Centre, Coal Harbour Community Centre, and Barclay Manor have been announced. Popular programs for adults like the West End Indoor Cycling and Flower Arranging will be making a return, while some fun and new programs are being introduced. We are also adding more children’s programs at both West End and Coal Harbour Community Centres.
Registration for our Fall Programs opens on Monday, August 15 9:00am (online/in-person) and Tuesday, August 16 9:00am (phone-in). You can register for programs online at the City of Vancouver website. Be sure to register early as many programs will fill up fast. Registration is required for most programs as they need a minimum enrolment to run. If there is not enough interest in the program, it will either be cancelled or postponed prior to the first class.

West End Fest 2016
The 2016 edition of the West End Fest is fast approaching! From a temporary tattoo booth to inflatable play areas, it will be a fun-filled day. We will be adding to the fun with live music throughout the day. West End Fest will be taking place at the King George Secondary School field. The fun kicks off at 11am and doesn’t stop until 3pm.

Music in the Park on Summer Sundays
Celebrating Haywood Bandstands 102 Years of Community Performances from 1914 – 2016, The Esmond and Edith Lando Trust Fund, the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation and the West End Community Centre Association present Music in the park. Bring a picnic and enjoy these free performances on various Sundays during the summer. All-ages entertainment, everyone welcome.
Music in the Park takes place on various Sundays throughout the summer from 1:00 to 3:00pm at the Haywood Bandstand in Alexandra Park on 1755 Beach Avenue at Bidwell. The performance dates and schedules are available at the West End Community Centre, Coal Harbour Community Centre and Barclay Manor.

Featured Class: Flower Arranging
The Flower arranging class is designed to be a fun and social bi-weekly event. There are no previous skills needed for the class and it is open to everyone. The floral arranging class will teach people that by working with flowers of all different colours and sizes. ANYONE can make a stunning floral arrangement! This class is a great way to relieve stress as it is a superb creative outlet. It is also a very calming activity because flowers are beautiful and they smell wonderful too. Everybody will leave with their own flower arrangement, so please bring a vase with you to the class. Participants may be asked to make arrangements for the Flowers for Food stand at the WECC, but this will be optional.

A 4-week class that combines yogic meditation and movement practice with Writing Practice Kathrin Lake, author of Writing with Cold Feet, is not only a sought-after writing coach but is also certified in a yogic practice for over 50s. She has combined her skills to help new and advanced writers find levels of peace and beautiful expression in their writing practice. Ideal for
poets, journalers, storytellers and dabblers in creative writing. This will be a spiritual, creative journey you won’t soon forget.You must bring a journal and pens to write with and wear comfortable clothing. Some gentle movement and meditation will be lead. Featured Class: Adult Hockey Skills
Adult Hockey Skills
The West End Community Centre offers a featured class titled Adult Hockey Skills. Adult Hockey Skills is a co-ed, fun, no pressure program designed to boost your love of our national pastime. During a standard session you will participate in a proper stretch and warm-up, a variety of exciting drills, personal development time including techniques such as; snapshot, face-offs, crossovers and of course, a game. During this featured class, work on your skating, passing, shooting and your positioning to help boost your confidence. This is a very popular program with many players returning year after year. Please note that full equipment is required, including face protection.

Build your cycling fitness skills with our indoor cycling classes at the West End Community Centre. You’ll pedal your way through a fun filled fitness experience, designed to burn calories, increase muscle endurance, improve cardiovascular health and decrease stress levels. This unique program is open to all fitness levels, with a choice of 4 different classes.
Indoor Cycle Classes
Express Classes: 45 minutes of cycling including a quick warm-up and cool-down, designed to get your workout in and you on your way.
Cruise and Core: 60 minutes of cycling with varying intensity and core training for older adults. Includes cycle set up, posture and technique to ensure a safe and comfortable ride.
Cycle Fit: 60 minutes of riding with a longer warm up and cool down.
Cycle Core: 45 minutes of cycling including the warm-up, followed by 30 minutes of core training and a stretch.
